To ensure a smooth transition, they are providing a three-month sunset period so users have sufficient time to find an alternative feed-reading solution. I am a Google Reader user and wanted to migrate to a new reader without losing my\u00a0subscription\u00a0list. First, I searched \u00a0extensions <span id=\"5f4da6fe-dfb4-4ce5-91bd-b10643d77db5\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">on<\/span> Chrome Web Store and found a couple of them. This list includes alternatives that I found and also which my friends recommended.<\/p>\n<p><em>These sites are ranked in no particular order.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feedly.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1. <span id=\"661abf95-e509-464a-b01f-0e751bc2b6d4\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"7a55ae2f-8f0e-435e-9ee3-7bc77e9d7a4e\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Feedly<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Free<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/01-feedly.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-556\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/01-feedly-1024x496.jpg\" alt=\"Google Reader Alternatives - Feedly\" width=\"620\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/01-feedly-1024x496.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/01-feedly-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/01-feedly.jpg 1348w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am using Feedly as it allowed me to move all my subscriptions to their\u00a0back-end\u00a0in a\u00a0couple\u00a0of seconds. Right now they are running on Google Reader API but will be moving to their back-end named &#8216;Normandy&#8217; soon Google Reader is shut down. I\u00a0recommend\u00a0using this as its time saving. I didn&#8217;t like their user interface, I think it&#8217;s because I am used to Google Reader. Might take some time to like it there. But I hope they improve more in future. These guys have better understanding on Google Reader so I hope give us back the Google Reader experience.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.netvibes.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span id=\"3997647e-d8e6-408a-9bf7-2d741a3139e6\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"11241290-581c-432c-9ea7-e5f9a75a65a0\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">2.<\/span><\/span>Netvibes<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Free<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/02-netvibes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-557\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/02-netvibes-1024x489.jpg\" alt=\"Google Reader Alternatives\" width=\"620\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/02-netvibes-1024x489.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/02-netvibes-300x143.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/02-netvibes.jpg 1366w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Netvibes has a great looking dashboard, loads of widgets and more functionality than any other reader out there. Most of the widgets are free, but some of them cost money.\u00a0Importing your Reader OPML file into Netvibes is as simple as clicking \u201cAdd content\u201d and then \u201cImport.\u201d Recommended if you all those fancy stuffs around your reader, I like to simple and clean so didn&#8217;t choose Netvibes.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsblur.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3. <span id=\"269f0efe-836b-485b-a0e8-2cdffceb2339\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Newsblur<\/span><\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Free<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/03-newsblur.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-558\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/03-newsblur-1024x496.jpg\" alt=\"Google Reader Alternatives\" width=\"620\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/03-newsblur-1024x496.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/03-newsblur-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/03-newsblur.jpg 1347w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"f425bb17-138e-4099-be7a-602254bd0ca0\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Newsblur<\/span>\u00a0resembles\u00a0to Google Reader. It\u00a0is another good alternative to consider. <span id=\"e2230331-ff3d-4d8e-9a8b-2c60bca193da\">A<\/span> unique feature Newsblur got is it combines\u00a0RSS feeds and headers with actual websites. If you are not getting what I am talking try it by yourself as Newsblur gives us an option to try their service before signing up. They have also added an option to import from Google Reader on the homepage.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/reederapp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">4. Reeder<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Premium<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/04-Reeder.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-559\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/04-Reeder-1024x496.jpg\" alt=\"Google Reader Alternatives\" width=\"620\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/04-Reeder-1024x496.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/04-Reeder-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cms.viralmediatoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/04-Reeder.jpg 1348w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reeder is a reader for Apple devices like iPhone, Mac, etc. This was recommended by one of my <span id=\"e3b94d14-79c7-48d2-89d6-f04e419d7f16\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\"><span id=\"1e6950d7-031d-43fc-93fb-32beb38daaed\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">friend<\/span><\/span> who is an Apple\u00a0fan boy. I included this in the list because of its sleek design and great\u00a0functionality\u00a0it gives. One best feature I liked is\u00a0that it lets you download articles for reading offline. If it was free most of my\u00a0friends\u00a0would have used it.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.digg.com\/post\/45355701332\/were-building-a-reader\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">5. I am\u00a0definitely\u00a0 moving to Digg Reader when it&#8217;s released (Well, if they make it better and I am pretty sure they will). Digg announced this on their <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.digg.com\/post\/45355701332\/were-building-a-reader\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog<\/a>\u00a0and lot of them are already excited about this. Hope they release it before\u00a0July 1, 2013. They had plans in making a reader way back and it&#8217;s now in their top list as Google made their\u00a0announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Try all of them by yourself and choose which suits your\u00a0requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Lot of RSS reader websites faced huge traffic after Google&#8217;s\u00a0announcement. Some of them even increased hardware support to manage more traffic. <span id=\"4643b34d-f60b-469d-993d-90a0262e91de\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Newsblur<\/span> added many new servers and the <span id=\"d5cd60d1-3db8-4aaf-849a-8a9835cd8528\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">backend<\/span> is being rewritten to support 10X growth in a single\u00a0week.<\/p>\n<p>Let me know if you have found some awesome reader, I would love to try them out as I haven&#8217;t found a service which will give me back my Google Reader\u00a0experience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google on 13th March announced that they are\u00a0Powering Down Google Reader\u00a0on July 1, 2013.
